Spare parts for large LNG vessels
Liquefied Natural Gas: natural gas that is so cold, it becomes liquid. Handy, because then it can be shipped in large numbers. However, due to the delivery deadlines, any technical problems that arise within the sea vessels transporting it, must be resolved quickly.
Spare parts are key-players in this story. The maximum lifespan of a LNG tanker is 40 years. During this technical lifespan, parts must be readily available and also immediately ready for use. When a component becomes defective, fast access to spare parts is of the utmost importance. Being able to promptly service the vessels in case of defects ensures delivery deadlines can still be kept, preventing fines and loss of revenue.
Drachten LNG Storage: the place to be for everything you want to store
Cocoon already started making storage spaces for these spare parts in the late 1980s. With LNG moving increasingly towards Europe, the demand for one large location has increased. And that one big location is located in Drachten.
In Drachten we store all kinds of parts of LNG tankers, however we also welcome other spare parts that require temporary storage. That way everything is in one place and that makes for much more efficiency. We have very different components: from spare parts for LNG vessels with a total value of 15 million, to parts of wind turbines with a smaller value.
Our outdoor space in Drachten is about 8000 m2. The parts stored outside are packaged with our famous mothballing system. Indoors we have a storage area of 1200 m2. The hall that we built is sealed inside with Cocoon and therefore airtight. We are able to control the level of humidity so that it never rises above 35% ensuring all materials remain in their original condition. ‘As good as new’ is not good enough for Cocoon. We are only going for new.

We not only provide the storage of parts. We are also your partner in the transportation and logistics of the parts. Both from production to storage, and from storage to ship. The size of the part is no problem for us, we arrange the details. Moreover, we report and monitor the humidity levels every month, so we can be sure all the components are kept intact.
