About us

The Cocoon mothballing system was invented at the end of the second World War to preserve all equipment like fighter jets, Marine vessels and others after the second World War ended.

With this system they preserved the equipment but kept them in an status ready to be used. When machines are not used for extensive periods of time, they need to be stored in such a way as among others to prevent corrosion.

Mothballing equipment offers a perfect solution.

About Cocoon

We are a company located in Hoofddorp, a town nearby the airport, and we also have our dedicated storage facilities in Drachten, the north of The Netherlands where we store spare parts of LNG carriers.

Alexander van der Zee, owner of Cocoon (since 2002), has established roots in the painting industry. His grandfather had a paint factory where his father also worked in and so became quite familiar with the production and application of paint-related products from a young age.

When the opportunity came to offer cocoon products, he seized that chance to further develop new applications for the technology.

Our company has existed since 1972, meaning we are a well-known party, especially in the pharmaceutical sector. We do notice that architects do not always think of us for facade covering. That is something we need to change, because Cocoon is weatherproof, perfectly applicable to any organic form and is extremely low in weight

Cocoon’s method

Cocoon can do everything from A to Z. We have impact on the entire chain, from the first advice to the final application and after-sales service.

Therefore we can offer the best guarantees. We are not the cheapest as the coating is applied by hand, resulting in more working hours. But we do deliver craftsmanship and bespoke solutions.

Before parties contact us, they have often tried a lot of other solutions.

They have searched for cheaper alternatives, but then experience problems regarding durability and the formation of corrosion and mold, because the coating needs to be applied seamlessly, or because of insufficient elasticity or chemical resistance.

The right look and feel

Alexander: “Perhaps that is what gives me the most energy: sitting down at the drawing table, thinking along with others until we have found the perfect solution. I am a happy person if we can give the design of an architect, contractor and finally the client the right look and feel by applying our product.”

Cocoon offers

Prevent moisture and dust

The Cocoon Mothballing System provides the objects to be protected with a weather-proof, tough and seamless Cocoon ‘skin’, which is hermetically sealed against moisture and dust. Within this ‘cocoon’, the relative humidity is kept at approximately 40%, which prevents the formation of mould and corrosion.
