Cocoon Membrane
Prevent corrosion and mold with seamless airtight preservation
Cocoon Membrane is a new application form, which looks a lot like the Cocoon Mothballing System. Both the Cocoon Systems are elastic and weather resistant and seal objects from the outside air.
Unique quality
The most unique quality of the Cocoon Membrane is that the skin, by the movements of wind, always changes shape. When it is completely wind silent, the Cocoon Membrane automatically returns to its original shape. This unique characteristic makes the Cocoon applicable for many more purposes than merely conserving objects. Cocoon Holland used this technique to ‘dress up” the Prada Transformer, the multifunctional turnable design building, designed by Rem Koolhaas, which was used in Seoul in 2009 for many cultural events.

Terms and advantages transparency.
Conditions and advantages of transparency.
In a transparent artificial skin obviously not one single seam should be visible. Therefore the Cocoon Membrane, other than the Cocoon Mothballing System, has to consist of precise ready-made foil parts. Applying the transparent Cocoon is a very specific and detailed job. We have to carefully monitor the thickness of the layers. The skin, of course, has to be strong enough to resist UV-radiation, wind and rain. The layer thickness we achieve by spraying several Cocoon-layers. The extra advantage of this method is that the Cocoon Membrane tightens itself more and more around the object, into a vacuum.
About Cocoon Holland B.V.
“We are a company located in Hoofddorp, a town nearby the airport, and we also have our dedicated storage facilities in Drachten, the north of The Netherlands where we store spare parts of LNG carriers”.
Alexander van der Zee, owner of Cocoon (since 2002), has established roots in the painting industry. His grandfather had a paint factory where his father also worked in and so became quite familiar with the production and application of paint-related products from a young age.
When the opportunity came to offer cocoon products, he seized that chance to further develop new applications for the technology.
